History

We welcome anecdotes, written evidence, or beer-blurred memories of the genesis of our great Club. Please e-mail info@utshockey.org with any ideas.
Thanks to Peter Dobrijevic for the info so far.

The first UTS hockey teams were organised by the sports office (Ben Tjen and Cheryl Macklin) at uni in July 1981 to play in the Australian Intercollegiate Championships in Canberra. There was both a men's and women's team. The teams came nowhere in the comp but everyone had a really good time.

The club was originally named the New South Wales Institute of Technology (NSWIT) Indoor Hockey Club and was formed and played for the first time in January 1982.

The original members were:

Richard Stuart (President)
Peter Dobrijevic (Secretary)
Frank Tamas (Treasurer)
Malcolm Green
Michael Vandervelde

Since the indoor comp we played in was a five-a-side competition, we had the whole club in the same team.

..........to be continued.
