UTS Hockey Club is a fun, exciting
and well-organised club that competes in various
hockey competitions around Sydney. All training
and games are on artificial surfaces. Currently,
the club comprises 6 men's and 10 women's senior
teams, and 5junior teams.
In this section you will find
information about our hardworking Committee,
details about Joining
the Club, some History,
a schedule of playing Fees,
related hockey Links
and a list of recent club Achievements
and award winners.
Comprising over 200 senior members,
we are the largest actively competing club at
the University, and one of the largest Hockey
clubs in Sydney, experiencing phenomenal growth
in recent years. No wonder we are 4 times winner
of the UTS Union "Club of the Year"
trophy (1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002)
The men compete in Premier League
of Sydney Hockey Association. This is the top
level of grade hockey in NSW. Lower grades compete
in SHA Divisions 2 and 3. Our four top women's
grades compete in the Sydney Womens Hockey League
Divisions 1, 3, 4, and 6, and our women's veteran
team in Div 3. Women's first grade compete in
Metro Division One, the top grade for women in
NSW. We also have 4 teams competing in the Sunday
afternoon/evening competition run by Sydney North
Hockey Association. Current UTS students have
the opportunity to compete at East Coast Challenge
and Australian University Games, against Uni teams
from around the country. Having 16 teams allows
us to cater for all standards of player, from
beginner to International.
Outside the regular winter season, members can join indoor, summer and mixed teams.
On the social side, the Club runs
Cocktail Parties, Trivia Nights, Pub Nights, Presentation
Dinners and Xmas Parties, which allow members
and their friends to meet students from other
teams and other faculties within the University.
Our club pub, the The Union Hotel, is the usual
meeting place for players and supporters after
games on the weekend.
UTS Hockey Club is affiliated with the UTS Union, and enjoys substantial financial and administrative support. The funding we receive is used to subsidise playing fees, uniforms, training facilities, and allows us to employ top coaches for all teams.
Membership is not exclusive to UTS students or graduates, so if you are interested in joining UTS Hockey Club, email us ASAP on info@utshockey.org.
