Hi Everyone,
Just a quick report to let you all know that I am still alive over here. Unfortunately though I have little good news in the hockey department. We have played the 3 top team thus far and gone down 0-1, 1-2, and 1-5 to Germany, Holland, and Argentina respectively. Thats the order they came at the Olympics too! Two players sit out each game and they are rotating through the new players so it was my turn to sit out during the Argie game last night which was disappointing as it was such a big match... they have thousands of fans cheering and jumping and throwing things around. Very crazy, but very cool. The Argies love their hockey and treat the team like Gods. They are staying at our hotel and we have fans constantly swarming outside the hotel which is pretty novel... at first... then you just get annoyed as arrogant as it may sound as they sneak in and badger you and make you feel really bad for not stopping for at least 5 of them! But cool just the same, and when it comes down to it isnt an everyday occurrence for us and Argentinians are pretty polite by nature.
Apart from that I went to shop up a storm the other day and came home bitterly disappointed as I couldnt find a thing. I´m going to try again on our next rest day. we went to a boutique style shopping mall the other day where I managed to find things... but ironically we have all traveled halfway across the globe to buy at least one item each that has ´Billabong Australia´written on it for about half of what it would cost us at home! Most of my money has been spent on a particular chocolate that we dont get in Aus and the shop next door orders them in for me when he runs out and gives me extra little chocolate eggs when I go in cos I think I am putting his son through college! I have managed to get others hooked on this chocolate though... its good! If not for this chocolate I would come back without my standard chocolate cravings as nothing else here is particularly good on the chocolate side of things!
So, we play China tomorrow and then New Zealand the next day. Winning both of those games would see us playing off for Bronze so still in the hunt. Our poor security guards (one sniper, one bomb expert and one germ expert! ... although in saying that this particular assignment is a walk in the park for them so I really dont think that those skills were job specific requirements!) lost 50 pesos on last night´s game as they backed us vs Argentina. Bugger!
Hope you are all well..
