A great weekend of finals hockey saw 8 UTS teams competing across the various grades in Sydney. Whilst 2 teams have now been eliminated, we still have 6 squads heading for Finals glory!!!
Two teams have won their way directly to their Grand Final – Men’s 3rd Grade, and Women’s Stingers. The men defeated Macquarie Uni in extra time of their Div 2 – 1st Grade game, whilst the Stingers drew 2-2 with Sydney Uni in the Sydney North C Division, but progressed as they were minor premiers.
In other men’s games, 2nd grade defeated Moorebank 3-1 in a solid performance that now sees them face last year’s Premiers, Sutherland, in the Preliminary Final. In a much tighter encounter, 4th grade lost narrowly to minor premiers Ryde, 3-2, but receive a second chance when they meet St George in the Prelim Final. Men’s 5th grade lost their minor semi final 3-0 to Manly to end their season.
In other women’s games, 3rd grade lost 2-1 to Gordon, in a replay of last season’s Grand Final. This was another close game throughout, unfortunately the result did not go our way this time around. Better news though for UTS Lizards in the Sydney North B Division, as they defeated Northern Districts 2-1 to progress to the Prelim Final on Sunday. UTS Eagles, premiers from the last 2 seasons in the A Division of this comp, lost their major semi 3-0 to Northern Districts, and now face Sydney Uni in their Preliminary Final.
Many thanks to all the supporters – could everyone please make an effort to attend at least ONE of the Preliminary Finals this weekend and cheer UTS on to glory!!!
